"Cigar Box", new image for the 13th Hondarribia Blues Festival

"Cigar Box" is the title of the poster that will be the image of the XIII Hondarribia Blues Festival that will be held from 12 to 15 of next July on the shores of Txingudi Bay. The designer Sergio PĂ©rez -who was also the author of the poster in 2016- was inspired by this instrument that originated in the 1930s, in the Mississippi Delta, and was created only with boxes of cigars and wire.
With this image, the Hondarribia Blues returns to vindicate what undoubtedly is a good part of its essence: to rescue for the fans the most genuine blues and everything that surrounds it. Thus, for the poster this year has directed the artist towards the most classical part of this universe.
Wooden boxes of the cigars of the time and wire, were the humble materials that gave life to this instrument, in what may well be considered a symbol of the musical creation itself.
"During the conversations prior to the realization of the poster," explains Sergio Perez, "it became clear to me that the Festival's organization was looking for an image this year that reflected in a very direct way the most classic blues world. Despite such a clear pattern, the margin of creative freedom was very broad. Studying different ideas in this direction, "he adds," I found the legendary cigarbox guitars that offer a very rich typographic and ornamental world and that inspired me to start designing. "
